Hallo lieve mensen! It\u2019s January! The start of a new year.\nThe start of a new DECADE. I\u2019ve seen everyone\u2019s New Year\u2019s Resolutions (thank\nyou Instagram). I\u2019ve posted my own homage to New Year (thank you Instagram),\nand I\u2019ve partied with the Dutch and watched 2020 explode into my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d like to make an announcement first of all. I am a party\npooper extraordinaire. The older I get, the less I find the climax of 12pm\nexciting, and instead find the ever passing hours more and more daunting. I\nneed my 8 hours you see. I get very grumpy without them and I hate that feeling\nof my eyeballs sliding down my face whilst the rest of my forehead tries to\ncatch up. So basically, I moaned as much as humanly possible at the thought of\nhaving to stay up past midnight for ONE night out of 365.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why am I like this? I have absolutely no clue. I do <\/em>enjoy a good party. I think it has\nmore to do with worrying about talking Dutch to people than anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, I\u2019ll put my inner Grandma away for the rest of the\nday. I want to tell you how the Dutch celebrate New Year\u2019s Eve. For a start,\nthey call it Old Year\u2019s Eve, or Oudjaarsavond. At first I found it a strange\nname. After all, we are celebrating the new incoming year, not the old one, right?\nAfter all, Christmas eve is the night before Christmas. Why wouldn\u2019t the night\nbefore a brand new year be called New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nowadays I get it a bit more. I guess we are celebrating in\nthe old year, and celebrating everything that we went through in the old year,\nso really, they\u2019re not wrong these Dutchies. But neither is everyone else celebrating\nthe night before the new year, so let\u2019s call it a draw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, here are the few things you must do in order to celebrate the coming of a new year if you live in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
